I am a Level 1 graduate of the LifeForce Yoga® Practitioner Training process with Amy Weintraub, MFA, E-RYT 500. I use LifeForce Yoga® practices with many different clients for a variety of issues, integrating them into our regular talk therapy sessions as appropriate. In 2015 I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training with Amy Petty, MA, E-RYT500 through Noah Mazé’s methods (Yogamazé), and am now a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.
What Can I Expect From Therapy That Includes LifeForce Yoga®?
LifeForce Yoga® practitioners use a variety of methods to help people move toward greater health and healing. These methods may include:
- Breathing practices
- Simple meditation techniques
- Vibrational tones (mantras)
- Simple yoga postures and movement
- Hand gestures (mudras)
- Visual imagery (bhavana)
- Yoga nidra (the “yoga of sleep”)
These practices, when learned in a trusting therapeutic relationship, help to create a “safe container” for healing. LifeForce Yoga® for anxiety and depression can help you release blockages in your mind and body where tension, grief, pain, trauma or self-limiting beliefs are stored. Best of all, you can learn to do most of the LifeForce Yoga® practices on your own, in your day-to-day life!
LifeForce Yoga® was founded by Amy Weintraub, author of Yoga for Depression. It is an evidence-based practice. Research shows that participation in LifeForce Yoga® led to a decrease in depression symptoms, as well as other related physical or mood states. These changes were maintained over time (see the article “Initial Evaluation of the LifeForce Yoga Program as a Therapeutic Intervention for Depression,” International Journal of Yoga Therapy-No. 18 (2008), pp 49-57).
The intention of a LifeForce Yoga® practice is to clear accumulated blockages of energy. When energy is blocked, psychological symptoms such as anxiety and depression commonly emerge. Clearing these blockages can bring balance into your life, help regulate mood symptoms, and assist you in managing your moods.
